Extended Collection

As the majority of our Trolleys & Trailer were built by D Wickham & Co. Ltd, it was decided that we should try and tell the wider story of this fascinating British engineering company and its associated businesses.

Obviously the beginnings of the Trust are linked to the original Wickham of Ware Online Yahoo! Group, that we started and in the years since, we have added a Facebook Group and also a Flickr Group. Through these Groups and also our work with the Museum at Ware we have learnt more and more about the various Companies and have also made contact with a growing number of former employees.

We also decided we should purchase and restore various representative non-railway items, manufactured by D Wickham & Co. Ltd and their associated Companies. So, we have now built up a collection of Pumps, Cranes and Steam Cleaners, which will be restored, used and demonstrated. We continue to research the full history of the Companies and will look to purchase other suitable and relevant items, should they become available.

The Company which bought out Wickhams in 1988 continued to make all the contractors plant including hoists and pumps. The Railway division was sold by them shortly after.
