In April 2024 we spotted a Wickham Genie Pump (S/No. 16411) & a Wickham 2" Lift & Force Pump (S/No. 14061) on Facebook Marketplace.

We immediately contacted the seller and made an agreement to purchase them.

Interestingly, the Seller’s grandfather had been subcontracted by Thames Water on contracts to change water mains from iron to plastic. Later he worked on contracts repairing burst mains. His business ran from 1994 to 2014 when he retired, and both were part of his collection of tools.

They were in Pangbourne and a friend of mine who was local to there, agreed to collect them. So, on 4th May 2024 he collected them (by coincidence he currently works for Thames Water!) and the following day were collected from him by another friend who moved them into storage in his shed.

They stayed there until 5th October 2024, when our Chairman went and collected them and took them into store in his garage.

Not long after this, we spotted another Wickham Genie Pump (S/No. 17542) again on Facebook Marketplace.

We contacted the seller and made agreement to purchase it. They had bought it from an industrial auction and so didn’t have any history of it, but it appeared in very good condition.

This one was in Maidstone and one of our volunteers who lived locally kindly collected it on 16th May 2024 and then stored it in his garage.

Mammoth Trip to deliver pumps to final home

On 14th & 15th April 2025 these three pumps were part of a marathon collection & delivery trip carried out by the Chair and the above mentioned volunteer.

Starting in North Hertfordshire and visiting Tamworth, Andrew Briddon Locomotives at Darley Dale, Reid Freight Services storage site in Stoke on Trent, the Telford Steam Railway and finally Tanat Valley Light Railway where they were unloaded and put into dry storage with our other Wickham Pumps.

Help Needed

The Trust now has fourteen Wickham Pumps of various types and is looking for more volunteers, who want to get involved in restoring, displaying, operating & demonstrating them. Contact us if you can help.

Fund Raising

The Trust continues to appeal for donations to enable us to move more of our collection to our secure locations, provide further suitable storage accommodation for some of our older & more historic vehicles and equipment and make some significant progress on several restoration projects.
