Wickham Prototype Target Trolley

The Trust is pleased to announce that agreement has been reached for the ownership of the prototype Wickham Rarget Trolley to be transferred from the Leighton Buzzard Narrow Gauge Railway to The Rail Trolley Trust.

The type R1300/BTrolley, Wickham Works number 2522 , made in 1938 was delivered to the 2ft gauge Lydd Ranges in Kent on 25 October 1938. 

This is an important addition to the Trust’s collection, as it is an extremely important part in telling the story of the development of the Wickham Target Trolleys. The Trust were previously granted permission to reproduce personal correspondence and official documents from the Coward family archive of H. E. R. Coward who was Chief Machinist, Royal Engineers from January 1939 until the end of WW2. Read all about H.E.R. Coward's workhere.

The Trolley was original preserved at The Museum of Army Transport at Beverley and was relocated to storage provided by a member of LBNGR, when the museum closed.

The Trolley was collected from Stonehenge Works yesterday and has been moved to the Bredgar &
Wormshill Light Railway who have kindly offered it a home, where volunteers from The Rail Trolley Trust will restore it. The Trust has all the parts required to return it to operational condition.

The Trust would like to thank LBNGR for agreeing to transfer ownership of the Trolley to the Trust and especially to recognise the significant help we received from the late Chris Wright (LBNGR Loans Officer) in achieving this.

We would also like to thank the Bredgar & Wormshill Light Railway for providing a home for the Trolley.

Obviously, the Trust has incurred costs in securing and transporting this vehicle and are appealing for donations to help with these costs and to assist with the restoration of the vehicle.
